The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University is expanding and seeks qualified candidates for a full time faculty positions.  We are especially interested in speaking with candidates with interest in Addiction Psychiatry, Inpatient Psychiatry, Consult Liaison Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry


We serve patients with a wide variety of psychiatric disorders and our faculty work with a talented group of psychologists, registered nurses, behavioral health therapists and social workers to provide both long term and short term adult psychiatric services for Temple University Health System.


Our services include:

  • 118-bed Inpatient Behavioral Health Program for both intensive treatment of patients with co-existing disorders of mental illness and substance abuse and for patients with a primary psychiatric diagnosis.
  • Forty-four beds are dedicated to extended acute inpatient care.
  • Full service Crisis Response Center. The crisis response center is the busiest emergency psychiatry service in Philadelphia.
  • Outpatient Psychiatry Practice where we evaluate and treats patients from the community for a full range of services from, twice-weekly 60 minute psychotherapy to brief monthly medication management.
  • Consultation-Liaison Service which provides both inpatient and outpatient services at multiple Temple University Hospital campuses.
  • An Outpatient Psychosomatic Medicine Clinic offering a holistic approach to the identification and management of psychosomatic disorders.


Temple has a thriving residency program and we recently expanded our educational programs by adding four new faculty members with expertise in substance abuse, child and adolescent psychiatry, consultation and liaison and forensic psychiatry. The Department is also involved in collaborative, multidisciplinary research efforts throughout Lewis Katz School of Medicine. Our faculty positions require a strong interest in teaching including bedside and didactic teaching and resident supervision. An interest in publishing or participating in research is preferred but not required.


Applicants should be an M.D. or D.O. with psychiatry board certification or board eligibility. Candidates with subspecialty interest and fellowship training also welcome to apply.   Physicians who are board eligible will be expected to complete their boards in psychiatry within the first two years of hire. Rank and compensation will be commensurate with experience. Ability to obtain a medical license in the Commonwealth of PA prior to start date is also required.
